06 Jun 2017Power and RenewablesThe most common concern when performing electrical work is arc flash hazards on alternative current (AC) systems. In fact, in the last 15 years, significantly more companies have acknowledged the importance of performing arc flash studies for AC-powered systems, in accordance with the CSA Z462 standard, to properly protect employees.Arc-flash hazard on direct current (DC) systems -

05 Jul 2016Mining and MetalsPlants and industrial installations regularly grapple with contamination problems due to dust, vapour, gas, fumes, or smoke—sometimes even just heat or humidity. These problems can easily be diagnosed, then solved, using smoke tracing. Smoke tracing is useful in a number of situations. Fire departments use it to simulate emergencies, while specialized firms use it to detect equipment leaks or faulty ventilation. Where toxic contaminants are a hazard, smoke tracing is generally used to check the pressurization of control rooms. In industrial facilities, the technique can be used to qualitatively assess proper operation and efficiency of general ventilation in an area of a plant or of local ventilation (process).Smoke tracing: a diagnostic tool for ventilation-

14 Mar 2016Power and RenewablesFor the past few years, the trend in district heating has been to use low-temperature hot water for thermal distribution instead of steam, and even to convert steam-based district heating systems to hot-water systems. But is this really the best approach? Should existing systems be converted, or optimized?District heating: Steam system optimization or hot water conversion?-
