Located at the southwestern end of Wareham Lake, approximately 10 km north of the Village of Mayo in Yukon, the dam stores the MH0 (aka Mayo A) and Mayo B generating stations (15 MW). The spillway is nearing the end of its design life and needs permanent repair or replacement. - Fecha jul 18, 2024 - Región Norte de Canadá - Cliente Yukon Energy Corporation (YEC) 1. ## Our experts' solutions  The Yukon Energy Corporation (YEC) has retained BBA to serve as the owner’s engineer for this project. The concrete structure of the spillway is in poor condition due to age, ongoing erosion and inadequate subdrainage below the spillway chute. In addition, rock abutment creep is squeezing the spillway piers together and impeding gate operation. Finally, the spillway lacks the capacity to handle the current inflow design flood (original design vs. 2024 conditions). Over the past 10+ years, BBA has performed various dam safety reviews, dam breach analyses, dam seismic analyses, spillway repairs and other works for YEC facilities. In this project, BBA will act on behalf of YEC to ensure their needs are understood and met quickly and efficiently. This includes establishing the many scopes of work and schedules for the design engineers (engineers of record), exploring various design concepts, estimating the rough order of costs and participating in engagement activities. The first task is to accelerate the project timeline to begin construction of a cofferdam in 2025, if needed. As part of the team, BBA experts will perform scoping, alignment and early works for the EPC, prepare multiple account analyses, and lead and support the engineer of record (Stantec) with the cofferdam engineering scope of work. Additionally, BBA will provide engineering support for permitting and public consultation. BBA will also help review the geotechnical site investigation plan for the cofferdam and new spillway, provide conceptual designs and reviews of final designs for the new spillway, incorporating a fish-friendlier passage, and prepare and oversee the implementation of a QA/QC plan.
