As part of our cross-Canada expansion, BBA opened offices in Calgary in 2012, followed by Edmonton in 2019. We now have 100 dedicated experts ready to help clients across the Prairies find innovative solutions to their most complex challenges.

For 45 years, BBA has been assisting companies in the Energy and Natural Resources sector with their challenges and transformations. Our local team has been well established in Alberta since 2012 and is comprised of over 100 engineering professionals offering multidisciplinary engineering expertise, including advanced fuels and chemicals, renewable power, decarbonization and digitalization. This deep understanding of the region's landscape enables us to grasp its unique challenges and opportunities. Supported by our extensive international expertise of 1,400 engineering professionals across Canada, the U.S. and Chile, we actively leverage the latest technologies and best practices to solve complex problems and drive sustainable and agile solutions through innovation.

Canada, like other countries that signed the Paris Agreement, has pledged to cut greenhouse gas emissions 40 to 45% below 2005 levels by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. This ambitious target calls for substantial efforts from industrial companies, whose processes and operations often contribute significantly to emissions.
But where should businesses begin? How can they establish ambitious but realistic goals? And how do they ensure their decarbonization plans remain relevant over the next 10 or 20 years? Stéphane Charest, Vice-President, Energy and Chemicals, and Susan Campbell, Director, Decarbonization, share insights in this episode of The ingenuity effect with host Sandrine Rastello.

In December 2022, nearly 200 countries gathered in Montréal and agreed on a series of measures to stop the rapid decline in biodiversity. The urgency is clear: 25% of all species worldwide are at risk of extinction, and in southern Canada, 70% of wetlands have already disappeared. This is especially concerning, as healthy land and oceans are essential for absorbing greenhouse gas emissions.
Businesses play a crucial role in this collective effort to conserve and restore nature. But what exactly are their obligations? How can they assess and reduce the impact of their projects on biodiversity? In this episode of The Ingenuity Effect, Vincent Clément, Senior Environment Professional, and Jean-Francois Bourque, Department Manager, Environment, at BBA, discuss these important questions with host Sandrine Rastello.

Decarbonization efforts are driving demand for renewable energy through the roof, and that's just the start! The Canadian federal government has big plans to become a “clean electricity superpower,” as mentioned in its 2023 budget.
So, what’s the game plan? It starts with a massive investment in renewable energy and the power grid. Are we up for the challenges and imperatives of this energy makeover? Join Sandrine Rastello as she welcomes François Vitez, Vice President, Power and Renewables and Scott Fleming, Director, Wind and Solar at BBA, to talk about this.

The extraction of natural resources is growing at an unbridled rate. So much so that the United Nations' International Resource Panel of experts, in its Global Resources Outlook 2024 report, calls for “urgent and concerted action” to slow the pace. If nothing is done, researchers estimate that this trend could increase by 60% by 2060, jeopardizing progress toward the sustainable development goals adopted by the United Nations in 2015.
