Mining companies generally have three targets: Develop a viable project, secure environmental approvals quickly and earn lasting support from local communities.

But, in today’s world, with regulations that vary by jurisdiction, rapidly shifting social expectations and stricter environmental requirements, advancing a mining project becomes far more complex than engineering alone.

So, what’s the way forward?

Start early with a holistic approach that combines technical expertise, environmental rigour and genuine collaboration with stakeholders, including negotiating impact and benefit agreements with affected communities.

 

1. ## Collaborate early for better outcomes
    
    Working closely with other project professionals from the start helps integrate key optimizations right away. This makes project development, implementation and, above all, social acceptability easier, from planning to mine closure.

3. ## The power of multidisciplinary teams
    
    Many mining companies struggle to manage this level of complexity, and growing opposition in host communities adds another challenge.
    
    One solution is to rely on extended teams. Today, anthropologists, sociologists, communications experts and stakeholder engagement experts work with engineers and environmental professionals to design integrated solutions. These teams lower impacts on natural and social environments and build community trust.
