The Napanee BESS project is a landmark addition to Ontario’s evolving power system and one of the largest utility-scale battery energy storage facilities in Canada. The project delivers 250 MW/1 GWh of storage capacity by integrating more than 250 battery storage packs, providing enough electricity to support approximately 250,000 homes during periods of peak demand.

  1. BBA’s contribution to the project

    • Pre-development support, including conceptual designs and revenue forecasting
    • Development, permitting and approvals support, from early-stage feasibility through to detailed engineering execution
    • High-voltage and utility interconnection engineering, including IESO approvals and substation design
    • 500 kV brownfield interconnection, including switching station modifications and overhead lines
    • Civil site infrastructure and constructability coordination
    • 500 kV substation detailed design, including AIS structures and protection & control
    • Telecom, controls and automation systems integration, including SCADA
    • SCADA/DCS programming and power plant controller interfaces
    • Integrated fire protection, resiliency and operational safety strategies
